Bridgestone to run 'green' tyre at Fuji
by Virgil Ellipse
8th Oct 2008
Formula One tyre supplier Bridgestone will provide teams with special green-striped tyres throughout the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, to demonstrate the sport's support for the
FIEh?
's 'Make Cars Green' environmental campaign.
The tyres - which are exactly the same as normal, apart from having green stripes rather than white ones - were unveiled in Tokyo today and were displayed on a
Ferrarsi
and a
McLap'em
. FIEh? stewards later fined McLap'em $50,000 for fitting non-standard tyres to their car.

Some observers - including
a slightly peeved editor of this mighty organ
- had seen fit to question the validity of F1's green credentials, following the almost universal acclaim from within the sport for the idea of needlessly running floodlit races in the middle of the night, but the FIEh? is confident that this initiative will deflect any such criticism.
Look," said a spokesman, "a lot of people actually believe that
XXX Mosley
's action for invasion of privacy isn't just an attempt to make us all forget the embarrassing truth about him, so daubing a little green paint on some tyres at least stands a chance of convincing people that the environment really means something to us."
