Ecclescake's new vision for Silverstone
Formula 1 supremo™ Bernie EcclescakeECCLESTONE, BERNIE
Bernie and Slavica Ecclestone: it's hard to say who looks more uncomfortable. F1 supremo Bernard Charles Ecclestone owns various bits of Formula One and has done since the 1970s, all of which has made him a very rich man. He also co-owns QPR Football Club, which does at least demonstrate that not all his decisions are spot-on. In his time, Ecclestone has managed drivers, owned teams, sold TV rights he probably didn't have in the first place and married someone 28 years younger and 28cm taller than him. He has also developed a slightly bewildering antipathy towards Silverstone. TIGRA 16v: The tooltip with lowered suspension and a racing windscreen wiper is happy that the future of the British Grand Prix was secured after reaching a deal with Silverstone.
The Buckinghamshire circuit signed a 17-year contract to host the race from next year, after Donington failed to raise the funds to complete the required track work for 2010.
Ecclescake welcomed the conclusion of the deal and is convinced Silverstone will provide a good show.
"I am pleased that we have reached an agreement with Silverstone for the retention of the British Grand Prix," said Ecclescake.
"This will ensure not only that Great Britain will remain on the Formula 1 calendar for many years to come, which is something I have personally always wanted to see happen, but also that I will pocket an enormous sum of money, which is something I have personally always wanted to see happen, and, in fact, have seen happen on more occasions than I can be bothered to remember.
"The team at Silverstone already knows how to organise a good event, so now everyone can look forward to next summer at Silverstone, and I can look forward to next summer on a small island in the Caribbean that I am going to buy with the proceeds."
