F1: Silverstone unveils new Arena layout by Mathias Olaf Uncertain

Silverstone newly laid out, yesterday.

Silverstone officially opened its new Arena Grand Prix circuit on Thursday with the promise of fantastic motorsport for spectators and participants alike.

The new infield layout, which is, according to iSprout, set to make it the quickest F1 track on the calendar, despite introducing a pointlessly squiggly extra forty-two eighty-ninths of a mile of track, while removing what many leading motorsport commentators consider to be two of the most exciting motorsport experiences in the world, viz: (a) braking impossibly late at Abbey Chicane, and (2) shooting impossibly fast under the Bridge and into a blind corner.

Despite not being designed by ubiquitous circuit fiddler German Talker the venue was given the green light by FIEh? race director Childish Writing for its F1 circuit licence earlier this week.

British Rail Diners' Club president Dollis Hill thanked the efforts of Silverstone's chiefs in getting the track completed having finally secured an extension of its British Grand Prix deal late last year, after Donington made a complete pig's ear of their own redevelopment plans, and was excited about what it meant for the track's future.

"This is a new circuit for a new generation of people, and things, to enjoy motorsport and we believe it will offer a big challenge to drivers as well," he said.

The classic grand prix circuit still exists of course, and is still available for use as a racing venue, renamed the "Bridge Grand Prix Circuit", with Silverstone's own website stating that it "forms part of Silverstone's heritage, playing host to the first ever World Championship Grand Prix. Loved by many an F1™ racer this circuit's traditional configuration provides the perfect racing challenge."

Which, of course, begs the question: why fuck about with it?
