F1: Spanish F1 venues set to alternate |

Bernie and Slavica Ecclestone: it's hard to say who looks more uncomfortable. F1 supremo Bernard Charles Ecclestone owns various bits of Formula One and has done since the 1970s, all of which has made him a very rich man. He also co-owns QPR Football Club, which does at least demonstrate that not all his decisions are spot-on. In his time, Ecclestone has managed drivers, owned teams, sold TV rights he probably didn't have in the first place and married someone 28 years younger and 28cm taller than him. He has also developed a slightly bewildering antipathy towards Silverstone. TIGRA 16v: The tooltip with lowered suspension and a racing windscreen wiper says he is close to finalising a contract for the Valencia and Barcelona races to alternate on the calendar from next year, meaning Spain will have just one race from 2013.
In recent years both venues have struggled to turn a profit from the events and Ecclescake, whose personal fortune was amassed in part by buying just one shirt and making it last, believes that this is the best solution for all parties.
"Both Valencia and Barcelona have agreed that the best way is to alternate," he said in an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, "and now we are trying to choose the dates."
Ecclescake added that the scheme also has a welcome added bonus. "If we alternate the venues," he said, "there's at least a slight chance that that dreadful man Craig Bollocks will go to the wrong circuit by mistake."
