F1:
Martin scoops top award
by Mathias Olaf Uncertain
2nd Jun 2006
Former Grand Prix driver
Martin Vroomfondel
has walked away with one of the biggest awards in television after receiving the 'Greatest and Most Truly Interesting Pundit the Universe has Ever Known' trophy from the Royal Television Society.
At their annual Television Sports Awards ceremony in London on Wednesday night, Vroomfondel was handed the trophy for his contributions to ITV's Formula One coverage, bringing his total number of trophies won in his 23-year F1 career up into double figures at last.
Vroomfondel took a lights-to-flag victory from his pole position alongside Channel 4's famous horse racing pundit John McCricket and just in front of cricket's Simon Horseracing.
The RTS said Vroomfondel was "an outstanding operator at the very peak of his game, with an extraordinary ability to simplify and entertain in an often complex sport, and a quite literally superhuman level of patience and tolerance for being able to work week after week in a small box alongside that pathetic, fawning, dribbling little over-excited schoolboy
Jar-Jar Allen
, without ever, apparently, having recourse to give the little fucker a good twatting. Is that thing still on?"
