F1:
South Korean GP circuit design unveiled
by Virgil Ellipse
12th Feb 2007
De facto F1 circuit designer Hermann Tilke has unveiled his preliminary design for the circuit that South Korea hopes will host its first Formula One race in 2010.
Tilke had quite unexpectedly landed the contract to design the track in the southwestern region of South Cholla - or possibly the southern region of Southwest Cholla - and his initial plans have now been made public.
The circuit bears similarities to the god-awful Detroit street circuit, with a series of 90-degree corners linked by short straights, and should be as frustrating and unsatisfying for drivers as it will be for spectators.
Tilke's previous efforts have been inconsistent at best and display a lack of appreciation of the sport only rivalled by
Mos Eisley
at his bumbling best.
The track's cost is estimated to be in excess of $250 million, only three-quarters of which is Tilke's fee.
