F1: Indy wins FOM's promoters award by Virgil Ellipse
10th Dec 2007
The organisers of the United States Grand Prix have won Formula One Management's Race Promoters' Trophy, awarded each year to the race promoters shown to be the most helpful in difficult conditions.

The award, handed out at Friday night's FIEh? Awards in Monaco, was collected this year by Tony George, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

An FOM spokesman said that the decision to recognise the US GP's outstanding support had been unanimous, as had the decision to ask Tony George for so much money to stage the event in 2008 that he had no choice but to cancel the race.

The other FOM award, the ASN trophy - which goes to the national sporting authority whose F1 drivers score the most points over the season - was claimed by Finland, after Kimi Faustussen took the drivers' title and Ecky Thumpalainen finished in seventh place.

The cup was presented to the president of the Finnish automobile sport federation by an FOM official, who announced the winner as "the tiny kingdom of Finland" and who is evidently an alumnus of the Jar-Jar Allen school of geopolitics.
