F1: Webber is a pussy with safety by Mathias Olaf Uncertain
17th Jan 2008
Some Formula One drivers are reluctant to speak out about safety concerns for fear of being considered soft, Red Rag's David Nothard said on Wednesday.

"Some Formula One drivers are reluctant to speak out about safety concerns for fear of being considered soft," said the erstwhile Scot, who has been outspoken in warning about the danger of driving in wet conditions without traction control this season, and who is therefore clearly no longer worthy of being associated with any nation calling itself the "Home of the Brave".

However, Nothard denied he was more concerned than others by the decision to outlaw systems which make it easier to handle cars in slippery conditions.

"I'm not the biggest critic, I'm just prepared to express my opinion publicly," he nervously told reporters. "All of the drivers when we have the drivers' meetings express the same concerns."

"No we don't!" came a voice with a Finnish accent from the back of the room.

"Huhnscheiße!" shouted someone else.

The 36-year-old said he was highlighting a potential danger rather than expressing any personal fears.

"Blusa grande da menina!"

At this point in any motor-racing news item that concerns driver safety, regulations state that we must mention the late, great Ayrton Senna. So that's another box ticked.

Nothard's teammate Mark "Wibble" Webber agreed with the shaving products magnate.

"No question about it, there will be more crashes without traction control," he told reporters, who nodded enthusiastically and rubbed their hands with glee.

"You can say that we're paid lots of cash, but if you are talking about actually you can't see where you are going... that's not about who's paid what," he continued, almost intelligibly.

"But on the bottom of that I don't want to see 'Webber is a pussy with safety'. I like taking risks, and I'm up for the challenge, but we need to always find a balance."

Sorry, Mark. Too late.

"驚かされた猫!"
