Fears about a lack of running in the dark at Formula One's first night race in Singapore have been alleviated following a major timetable overhaul set to be rubber-stamped imminently, dotdotdotcomma has learned by reading autosport.com.
In the event's original timetable, the practice sessions would have taken place in both daylight and twilight, with the race itself being run in the middle of the sodding night.
Concerns raised by some teams about the varying lighting conditions during the sessions leading up to the race have now been addressed by the event's organisers, who issued an updated timetable, along with a statement outlining how their new approach would give the race "a more daytimey vibe".
"Scheduling all practice sessions, qualifying and the race itself between the hours of sunrise and sunset," explains the statement, "results in an event that will offer all the challenges of a race run at night and lit up as if it were daytime, but without all the unnecessary added expense, inconvenience and danger of actually doing it."
The move has been welcomed by anyone who thinks about it for a second on the grounds that, exciting as the concept initially sounds, it's the same kind of excitement generated by dangling the keys to a sweet shop in front of a group of eight-year-olds and, in the same way, it should on no account be allowed to happen because the whole idea is absolute bloody lunacy.
