A1GP:
Team GBR protest Germany win
by Virgil Ellipse
7th Dec 2006
Team Great Britain are contesting the result of last weekend's Sepang feature race after Germany's Nico Hulkenberg was push-started in the pits, this week's
Autosprout
reports.
Hulkenberg stalled as he exited his pit after taking his mandatory stop but went on to win the race comfortably from perennial runner-up
Rob Beaker
.
It is not clear how much of an advantage Hulkenberg gained from his push-start but his winning margin of nearly 43 seconds would seem to make that matter somewhat academic.
Team GBR claim, however, that the push Hulkenberg received was strong enough to carry him around the first half of his out-lap at greatly increased speed and that this was sufficient to hand him an unassailable lead.
The letter of protest also draws attention to the presence of several unauthorised personnel in the German pit, and goes on to name them as Clark Kent, Bob Parr and Ben Grimm, otherwise known as Superman, Mr Incredible and The Thing respectively.
Lending weight to this argument is the penalty imposed on Hulkenberg for speeding in the pit-lane. Stewards levied a fine of $2m after seeing evidence that the German had been clocked at just over 7,000mph as he rejoined the track after his stop.
