| IRL: Rain wipes out Thursday Indy practice |

Bad weather has led to the cancellation of another practice session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as teams prepare for the 500th Indy 92. Sorry, the 92nd Indy 500.
Rain soaked the circuit for the second successive day, which naturally stops all the cars running, in case the drivers get their little helmets wet. The deity of your choice forbid that they should try driving in slightly tricky conditions.
"I don't think it would be Indy if you didn't have weather," said 2004 winner Buddy Rice, revealing a hitherto unplumbed depth of meteorological insight. "I think that's what makes this place so unique - you never know what you're going to get."
Actually, maybe it was Forrest Gump and not Buddy Rice.
The cancellation of the six-hour practice session - yes, that really is six hours of practice - leaves just one more whole day of preparation before qualifying. It makes one wonder how they'll all cope.
Most drivers feel that after a week of driving around the same four-cornered track, they've got a pretty good feel for how to drive it, although one or two of the rookies are still not as comfortable as they'd like.
"I'm okay as far as turn two," said Buck Follocks Jnr, "but then it all gets a little hazy. Is it turn four after that? Or turn three? You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking that it's back to turn one. Yup, that's it: turn one."
The race's organisers are hopeful that the next scheduled practice session will go ahead as planned, unless the gentle breeze that has been forecast suddenly turns into anything more than a draught, in which case all running will be stopped immediately.
