A1GP: GBH confirm Ramming, Beaker, Sarmy by Mathias Olaf Uncertain
12th Sep 2006
Team GBH have officially confirmed that Rob Beaker, Maddened Ramming and Oliver Sarmy will form their driver line-up for the 2006/7 season of the self-styled Wimbledon of Motorsport.

"We officially confirm," read a press release, "that Rob Beaker, Maddened Ramming and Oliver Sarmy will form our driver line-up for the 2006/7 season of the self-styled Cowes Week of Motorsport."

Beaker, the man they were calling The Next Jenson Button™ until the Hungarian Grand Prix this year, drove for the team for most of the inaugural A1 Grand Prix of Nations series without taking a single win. Ramming substituted for him in the final round and took a podium finish on his debut. Their combined efforts earned the British team third place in the standings, leading team boss Chaume Soft-Cheese, following a longstanding tradition of rewarding outstanding achievement in British Motorsport, to sack Got-the Horner's Hardon concern from running the team.

"Quite simply I think we have one of the strongest driver representations in A1GP with Rob, Maddened and Oliver on board," said Soft-Cheese.

"Obviously Robbie and Maddie were with us last year and did an unspectacular job scoring podiums and helping us to third overall in the nations' standings, while rookie Oliver Sarmy is on his way."

Ramming will drive for Team GBH in the season opener at Zandvoort as Beaker has a clashing So-Called World Series by Renault race. Sarmy will participate in the 'rookie' test on the Friday of the meeting. Decisions about subsequent driver rotation will be taken once the championship is underway, though Beaker has expressed a preference for anti-clockwise.

"First and foremost A1 Team GBH has to win this season so we'll look at the drivers for each race and decide who gives us the best chance of helping us to achieve that goal," said Soft-Cheese. "Unfortunately, the person who offers us the best chance in reality is (a) retired, and (2) somewhat German."
