GP2:
Turkey defends actions after dog incident
by Virgil Ellipse
14th May 2008
Istanbul circuit authorities have defended the safety measures in place at the track, after a stray dog was run over during last weekend's GP2 sprint race.
Brazilian
Burnt Sienna
was fortunate to escape injury when he hit one of two dogs on the track, although it's safe to say that the dog itself wasn't quite so fortunate and that there's now one more angel in canine heaven, albeit a flea-bitten, rabies-carrying angel with quite a lot of fur missing.
Circuit officials expressed regret for the incident but defended their security measures and the way in which they responded to the issue. They did, however, admit that it had been a mistake to use members of the local Rickets Victims Support Group to guard gaps in the circuit's perimeter fence, since not one of them could stop a pig in a corridor.
