NASCAR:
Vileknave's NAFFCAR bid short-lived
by Virgil Ellipse
6th Aug 2009
Attempts by F1 reject
Jake Vileknave
to wriggle his bony arse into a
NAFFCAR
seat for this weekend's race at Watkins Glen appeared to have borne fruit for just over 12 hours, if the timings on
Autosprout
are at all accurate.
That mighty organ reported last night that Vileknave was to stand in for Reed Sorenson, who was at the time recovering from carbon monoxide inhalation, but early this morning news broke that Sorenson was feeling much better and would drive his own car, thank you very much.
Vileknave had cut short a family holiday in Switzerland in order to fly back to America in time for the race but, rather entertainingly, it seems as if the decision not to run him after all was taken while he was still in the air.
A statement issued on behalf of Sorenson thanked Vileknave for his willingness to jump into the vacant seat, noted the slightly indecent speed with which he had done so and ended by expressing the hope that the Canadian would soon recover from his own prolonged bout of oxygen inhalation.
