F1: Silverstone unveils new 'wing' complex by Virgil Ellipse
18th May 2011
Silverstone bosses unveiled the circuit's new "wing" complex yesterday, as part of the British Racing Drivers' Club's major revamp, which leading figures believe will secure the venue's long-term future.

BRDC President Jack'n' Jill was at the circuit to open the new pit and paddock complex, which comprises a 55,00 square-feet building situated on the new start-finish straight at the British track.

The "wing" is the first phase of a programme that will see a second "wing" added by 2015, followed by an "engine" three years later and finally a "cockpit" two years after that. The finished improvements will allow the BRDC to fly the whole circuit to a new location about two miles to the north-east.

"It's an expensive project," said Jill, "but it turns out that it's cheaper to do this than to educate people that Silverstone is actually mostly in Buckinghamshire. After this, people will be able to talk about 'the Northamptonshire circuit' as much as they like and certain other people with an interest in these things won't blow a gasket any more."
