| F1: Porsche: scandal makes F1 unattractive |

Car makers Porsche and Volkswagen have ruled out entering Formula One, saying that the high cost and Max Exposure's sex scandal are reason enough for staying out.
"After the affair with Max and the women*, it would not be very savoury to get involved now," said Porsche chairman Wolfgang Porsche, presumably speaking about Formula One but you never know.
"Three hundred million euros a year - that is just burning money," added his Volkswagen counterpart Ferdinand Peeples-Carr.
Porsche are in the process of acquiring a majority shareholding in Volkswagen and both German companies have previously been seen as potential Formula One entrants.
That now seems highly unlikely, which is probably just as well; Formula One tends not to suit companies that either (a) spend 45 years making essentially the same car, or (2) believe that replacing a car with one that's heavier and slower actually represents progress.
*Funnily enough, "The Affair With Max And The Women" is a little-known Sherlock Holmes short story, published in 1891. Some scholars have questioned the story's authenticity, however, citing the story's lack of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's usual forensic rigour, the poor quality of the writing style and the fact that, in contrast with the rest of the Holmes canon, the story focuses largely on the sado-masochistic cavortings of a load of young women with not much on.
