| F1: McLap'em identify wheel failure cause |
by Mathias Olaf Uncertain 8th May 2008 |

The McLap'em team have identified the cause of Ecky Thumpalainen's big accident at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The British squad said that, due to a process fault during manufacture of the left front wheel, the outer clamp surface had been given a clear lacquer coating.
As a consequence, the clamp load that attached the wheel was not to specification and, when running, the wheel distorted and eventually failed.
"It seems that the failure was entirely down to the fact that the lacquer coating was clear," said a McLap'em marketing girl smugly, "meaning that, while the wheel is, as leading experts claim, the single simplest machine in the entire universe, us marketing girls have been correct all along in insisting that those wiseguys, if they are so clever, should tell us what colour it should be."
