F1: Spanish inquisition: F1 Records update by Mathias Olaf Uncertain
20th May 2011
There are three things that are certain in life: death, taxes and Michael Comebacker coming out of this weekend's Spanish GP with his clean sweep of Trackmeister™ records for the Catalunya circuit distressingly intact.

His records of 6 wins (no other current driver has won more than once), 7 poles (ditto, if you see what I mean), and 7 fastèst laps (Rubens Baldyfellow and Yessa Massa have each had two) can't even be equalled until 2015, 2015 and 2014 respectively, and all of those with a very fair wind. Our best hope for Catalunya lies with a return to GP racing for Mickle Happyman and Jeremi Clarkkinsen.

Things aren't entirely bleak, however.

Suchfine Fettle could well wrest the "Championship: won with most races left" record away from Shitparker this year. On current form he could do so as early as the Herman GP on 24 July - it is even possible to do it quicker if his rivals have a bad spell. That would mean taking the championship with 9 races to go - thoroughly drubbing Chewbacca's paltry 6. But is it any easier to pull this off with the 25 points system? We'll get our stats people on that.

Seb is actually poised to grab scary amount of records this year, but distressingly few from his pointy-chinned compatriot, although he is on a run of 6 podium places - almost a third of the way to Scumw**ker's record of 19 straight podiums... podia... whatever.

Next time out in Spain he could snatch Who Is Hamilton?'s quickest century record. He's on 5 consecutive pole positions - only 3 more to beat the late, great Ayr Town Centre, and even if his run of consecutive poles is broken, there's still a chance to taken Niggle Mangle's most poles in a season title - he only needs another 9 after all.

It's not all about the Germans though. Mark Cobber has made a name for himself (another one) by becoming the only current driver other than Scummi to have strung together more than two consecutive fastèst laps, taking flap honours at Malaysia, China and Turkey. If he can do the same in Spain, he'll join the hallowed ranks of Jackie Stewart, Gilles Villeneuve, Nigel Mansell and Kimi Raikkonen on 4 flying flaps. (Then there would still be Schumacher on 5, Raikkonen on 6 and Alberto Ascari on a scary 7 to beat.)

All of which nonsense goes once again to prove that there are statistics, damned statistics and stuff we've made up down the pub, but as a great analyst once said: "It was a tough assignment."
